My husband has said for years that he thinks that Tantum Ergo would make a great lullaby. I never disagreed with him (all eye-rolling to the contrary) but now I have a few more ideas.
Enter Rockabye Baby!
I grew up in a home that was rather loud and did not include much in the way of lullabies or rock. I would not actually buy this for any child in my care, but I still find it rather hilarious.
What do you think of nontraditional lullabies and baby soothing?
I have great plans to indoctrinate my children with what I consider to be “good” music, so those lullabies seem like a natural first step. In fact, I already will listen to those sometimes on youtube when I want something mellow, but with a little more going on than your basic new-agey piano.
I figure I’ll be using the classics as lullabies… they always relax me, so hopefully they will do the same for my future children!
You know, I don’t care for the Bohemian Rhapsody as a lullaby, but that 9 Inch Nails is gorgeous! Who’d'a thunk it? I might have to go online and look for some of this stuff…we need lullabies, and what I cannot STAND is Baby Einstein.
My lullabies were primarily by The Carpenters (Close to You) and Petula Clark (Downtown). I will repeat these same lullabies to my babies someday.
Not “non-traditional” but my absolute favourite is Sleep Sound in Jesus by Michael Card – the whole CD was a favourite of my daughter and mine for years!
