I am thankful 10/30/2011

For my sister. All of them, actually, but right now for the one who was able to take truly precious time to visit me this weekend.

For Butternut squash. It was on sale for $0.99 per squash and makes me very happy. Satisfying autumn food, here we come!

For Halloween. I never appreciated this holiday until 2005 when I spent it with Josh’s family. Fun, fun, fun. Something about candy, fire, and funny costumes is just better than dressing up like a Saint whose name you share and eating healthy “treats” with the other kids at church. Just sayin’, so don’t shoot the messenger! The point is just that normal happy Halloween is a whole lot more fun and I am thankful to have a taste of the sweet, corn syrupy happiness!

For my in-laws. They are wonderful, and that is pretty much all there is to it.

For pine cones. The other day Josh brought me home some cinnamon pine cones which was pretty funny. After all, you don’t buy pine cones, you pick them up off of the ground to start fires! But we’re now apparently solidly urbanified  and I smile every time I see them because awww Josh was thinking of me!, and they’re so nice and woodsy.

oh wow! and here I am someone who grew up with just normal ol’ Halloween and I got so taken up with the Saints parties when I learned of them! We try to balance these days. We had an All Hallow’s Eve party at our parish, only two of my kids went as saints, though. Dominic was Buzz Lightyear and Sarah was a kitty cat (meow)! It was loads of fun.

So glad you got to see a sister. I miss my sisters. I have one that lives close, but we’re so flippin’ busy that I hardly see her these days. :( And then my other two don’t even live by me. Love my sissys. Glad you got to spend some time with yours.

I love your balance. And I’d totally take my kids to Saints parties if I had children and a good Catholic party option around… I’d just also try to make sure it was fun and not too holy. ;-)

I think the luckiest kids are those who both get to do the normal thing with their neighborhood and then get to dress up as Saints for school parties the next day!

I’d never heard of Saint parties for Halloween before the last couple of years – I still don’t really love Halloween.

I do however love my in-laws. We are lucky ladies ;).
